I'm on Fire
« on: September 06, 2009, 04:01:41 am »
I had a little fire accident in the Kitchen today, I must be following after Yogi and his bad luck. Accidentally turned on my stove burner and didn't notice until hours later.

My real estate agent gave me some gifts in a plastic folder. I left that on top of the stove. It was smoldering and melting for hours but I caught it just in time. A newspaper was scorched and from the looks of it about to burst into flames.

Fortunately I didn't have to use my fire extinguisher. It's gonna be a big mess to scrape all that off of the stove.

I'm replacing the fire alarms in my house! Check yours too.

I'm glad you caught it before i fire erupted.  If it makes you feel any better I think I've had a terrible stretch of bad luck myself.   It started with me walking into the computer room and my computer had the blue screen of death and my hard drive had crashed.   Then the next day i got a speeding ticket and to top it off on the day after that as we were heading out of town for the long weekend i got into a wreck.   :o

I have to ask. Was the smoke detector there the whole time, or was that a later addition put in the pic?

Thanks everyone.

I bought the smoke alarm afterward for the picture. Well not *just for the picture it's actually going on the ceiling. The fire extinguisher is new too, bought a week ago. Thankful I did and glad I didn't have to use it. :)

Good thing you didn't have a gas stove or your papers would have gone up instantly.  I have an electric stove and I pile newspapers and mail next to it sometimes myself. I've wondered how bad it would be if it got turned on accidentally...but since I hardly ever cook, not much of a risk there.  Glad you caught it in time.

I am absolutely fanatical about NOTHING being on or around the stove... call me paranoid, but this post is exactly why.

When Doc and I got hitched... we recieved 2 of the LARGE sets of the red top Rubbermain Tupperware... good stuff.

Within two weeks Doc left not only a bag of some food product on the stove but also the BIG container (there is only one in each set) and melted them both beyond repair... but to my knowledge, nothing was in the bowl.  It was just a sheer loss.

As you all might can guess, I ripped him a new one...because I am SO paranoid about fires... what if we hadn't been home, what if what if... you get it..

Well... not to long after that, we were having a FAB FAB cookout...and I was making something yummy!  Anywho... I was chopping away...had cut the stove eye one to get my pot hot for whatever I was making...

As we were living in a new house... I had cut on the WRONG stove eye... And lo and behold... my only other BIG container was sitting on the eye, full tothe brim of my Insanely Delicious and FAMOUS homemade BBQ sauce.. YUM YUM!  And not only did it ruin the bowl it sent a gallon of the finest sauce down, down, down into the depths, cracks and crevices of my stove...

And believe it or not, I also ripped my self a new one...

Point being... kids... keep crap of yer stoves :P  It's DANGEROUS!!  ;)

Speaking of bad luck. Well this turned out to be GOOD luck.

Today I came in to work, and the call centre queue status monitor above the workstation where I usually sit was.. missing. Mine is on the left side.

On Sunday, my day off, the huge 30+ whatever inch TV spontaneously crashed down onto *my station. I thank God no one was there. It could have been me! o.O
