Good,I think that's the best way, even to make a base (sketch) of what you imagine and then someone skilled can finish -belive I'm not so good in doing sig,I just done example as no answer at first time on your request..

I use Windows Paint when combining pictures. I will have to check out Photoshopthough. And sorry Tuna. I just overlooked where you made the sigs. I must have had alma on my mind lol.
