Teamspeak
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:21:32 am »
Please remember that all of our servers, including our teamspeak server are FAMILY FRIENDLY.

This means that:

Foul language
Blasphemy
Bad language
Cussing
Swearing
dropping F bombs
Cursing

Whatever you want to call it, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED under any circumstances.

If you here somebody using bad language on any of our servers whether they are a guest or a member or even a member of the GS, please send a Private Message or email to either myself or cK or any senior member of the clan who you are happy with and the culprits will be dealt with.

Please provide information on who was present at the time to confirm the details.

If you are found to be swearing on TS, I don't care if you are SL, DI, CO, GS, DCL, CL..... you will not be welcome.

Thank you

Not to really dig up old posts or rehash things that may have been discussed previously that I missed - BUT have we considered making an ADULT (18+ YEARS ONLY) and over channel for TS?  I know we can filter channel rights/permissions so it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make something that only adults could access and talk "freely" within reason.  I think standards would still need to be in place there but the occasional curse word wouldn't get you in hot water.  My understanding is that most clans/TS servers have this in place already.  It would be more difficult to police than the others because there is still a line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior even among adults.  But I would think that there is a place for a channel like this in our TS setup.

Now, this may all be funny to you all coming from me seeing as how I never (ever, ever) am on our TS - except during scrims - and that's pretty much been the same since I've been in the clan.  I came to this clan from an 18 & up clan and rules were a lot looser as far as what could be said and typed in the server/TS.  It took me a while to adjust to the family-friendly atmosphere that {MFF} offers - as a matter of fact I nearly was banned on a couple of occasions for "slip-ups" that I typed into chat when I first started playing in the server.  Since then, I have certainly embraced the Family-Friendly environment that we endorse and that did require me to not even think about getting on TS on a regular basis, especially if I am having a few cold ones.  My mouth works faster than my brain at times and I don't feel like being banned for something stupid on my part - so I just type.  Doesn't mean I'm not being just as interactive at times on my end - you just don't hear it because I'm not on TS.  And it's not that I'm constantly spewing foul-mouthed monologues at everyone within ears reach, because I'm not - but I do have slip-ups on occasion and would also like to talk freely - as an adult - to people on occasion without breaking Rule A - Rule Z of the clan.

I know that channels can be gone into and even locked if individual users want to do so.  I've been on TS in private channels and heard/spoken some disallowed language.  I can totally understand keeping the game server 100% clear of this type of language as well as all channels that all minors and anyone else in the mainstream who wouldn't care for an occasional zinger to fly past their ears to go into.  However, I'd be more inclined to join TS regularly if I could be in a channel where a curse word or two wouldn't get me expelled from TS and possibly the clan.  I think there would be more than just me in that channel very soon.  I think we should be able to filter it by age as well as maybe even passworded if that's possible so that children of members couldn't join as their parents without having the separate password also.  (Just trying to think ahead).

So, I'm totally cool if the GS/CO on down think this is a rotten idea.  I just won't bring it up again.  I'll continue to abide by and enforce bad language infractions on our game server although I won't be monitoring the TS server for issues.  I just think that it's a good idea that I've seen other clans do (offer an adult section) where language restrictions aren't as tight and people that go into there are not the fragile type.  I've been in conversations with other members including, CO's and GS's, in private channels in TS, that I knew that proper language wasn't going to be a problem.

Still bringing up old posts lead? LOL

I'm going to have to agree with you on some of this. I normally don't get on TS for the same reasons as you, sometimes I just dont realize that I'm using, lets say "offensive," words, and I wouldn't be setting a good example if my mic was open while I was playing on the server. Which is why, if you're ever on TS when someone is trying to talk to me, you hear "Drae, Drae.... Hey Drae.... Drae you there?" I respond to the first "Drae" but I always forget that my mic is off, so nobody can hear me, because if they did... oh boy.

I do make a conscious effort to watch what I say at work, or in formal environments, but while playing games or goofing around at home... I speak as normally as anyone else would in those situations. Not that every other word I say is in appropriate, but lets just say I wouldnt be out of place on a construction site.

However, as loose-tounged as I am, I enjoy MFF's Family Friendly atmosphere because it really cuts down on the hostility between members and guests, as compared to other servers - as I've said before, its one of the main reasons I stuck around on MFF's servers for so long.

In any case, I think its a great idea, and a not so great one at the same time. My concern being that having a separate channel where the rules are a bit more lax, we're going to end up dividing our member base who do get on TS between the two channels. And I can see our TS regulars only going to this new channel as soon as they come on, leaving some of our other members in the lobby with nobody to talk to, resulting in an eventually emptier TS.

Sorry for rambling ;)

I agree with Drearnor. Push to talk is probably the best option. I know I will slip up at some point which is one of the reasons I am pretty cautious on TS.

It would be too divisive to have a channel for the adults and a channel for the young uns. Having said that, most of the young uns I know could probably teach us old boys a few new words!
